PLANTS.
* Plants make their own food in their
leaves.
*
Plants need water, minerals, light and energy from the Sun and carbon dioxide
to make their own food.
* THIS PROCESS IS CALLED PHOTOSYNTHESIS:
* The roots absorb water and minerals from
the soil.
* The water and minerals (raw sap) travel
up the stem to the leaves transported by de xylem cells.
* The leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the
air through small holes called stomata.
* Using energy from the Sun trough the chlorophyll,
the carbon dioxide combines with water, minerals and sunlight to make food
(glucose). The Phloem cells carry the glucose to all parts of the plant.
Respiration
* During the process of photosynthesis,
plants release oxygen into the air. This happens during the day.
*The importance of photosynthesis People
and animals need oxygen to breathe and plants provides us with it. They also
consume carbon dioxide to help prevent the greenhouse effect and global warming
